Iowa is the best U.S. state for children's dental health in 2019, according to a new report from personal finance website WalletHub. WalletHub ranked all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia based on 33 indicators of oral and overall health.

To rank the states, WalletHub weighed 10 oral health metrics, including the share of children with excellent or very good teeth, cost of dental treatment in the state, and the number of dentists per capita. Iowa came out as the No. 1 state for children's dental health, jumping five spots since WalletHub's last analysis in 2018.

Meanwhile, Hawaii ranked last in the analysis, falling seven spots from 2018. Other big movers included Mississippi, which rose 24 spots, and Maine, which fell 21 places.

The analysis also found children in New Hampshire had the highest percentage of excellent or very good teeth, while those in Connecticut were most likely to visit the dentist. These metrics were almost three times higher for children in New Hampshire and Connecticut than for those at the bottom of the rankings, according to WalletHub.
