The dental assistant allegedly shot multiple times, including in her face, at her place of employment by her partner on December 1 has sustained severe injuries and her recovery is expected to be long, according to a social media message posted by her employer.
Sheila Mobley, 47, a dental assistant at McRae Family Dental in Athens, GA, who was reportedly shot four times by her partner Carl Clark, 74, at the practice before it was open for business, remained in stable condition in the hospital weeks after the shooting, according to a Facebook post from McRae dated December 16.
To support the healing journey of their “beloved team member,” the practice created the McRae Recovery Fund to help offset Mobley's medical expenses.
Donations, which will go directly to cover Mobley’s recovery expenses, can be made online to the Minority Business Nonprofit Association, according to the dental practice's post.
At about 6:30 a.m. on December 1, Clark allegedly shot Mobley in what appeared to be a domestic dispute. After hearing gunshots and Mobley’s screams, a McRae Family Dental employee called 911.
When police arrived, officers found Mobley, a mother, sitting on the floor with a gunshot wound to her face. The practice was not open for business at the time of the shooting.
Since Mobley reportedly could barely speak, she used a notepad and pen to provide officers with information, including Clark’s address and vehicle description.
Police searched for Clark, and his vehicle was eventually spotted. During a police traffic stop, Clark allegedly shot himself. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
After spending several days in the hospital, Clark was released and transported to the county jail. Clark has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and attempted murder.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
