A Florida oral surgeon who lost his license for what a licensing board called "hit and run dentistry," because it left patients injured and in debt, is headed to jail, according to a story published on May 14 in Boca News Now.

Dr. Andrew Maron, who lost his dental license in New Jersey in 2019, was sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to burglary with assault and battery related to a reported altercation with another driver. Also, the 63-year-old was sentenced to four years of probation, according to the story.

In January 2024, Maron was arrested in Florida after purportedly placing his hands around the neck of a driver he had reportedly cut off while driving. A video camera in the car belonging to Maron's alleged victim recorded the altercation, according to the story.

Prior to sentencing, Maron requested probation, citing his bipolar diagnosis, other disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as that the road rage incident was an isolated incident, according to the story.

When Maron lost his license in 2019, he was ordered to pay about $520,000 in fines and restitution. He was also required to pay $138,500 in civil penalties, about $75,000 in restitution to 15 patients, and approximately $304,000 in costs and attorneys' fees for his dental practices that left many low-income, disabled, and elderly patients throughout New Jersey with harmful consequences.

It was determined that Maron, who owned multiple practices in New Jersey, took a “cavalier indifference” to his patients' well-being, and his approach to care showed a pattern of significant deviations from the standard of care that existed unabated for years.
