The numbers behind the power of text messaging in dentistry

In this episode of "The DrBicuspid.com Podcast," I spoke with Josh DeVries, the CEO of Intiveo, about the critical role of patient engagement in dental practices, particularly through the use of text messaging. We discussed findings from the "Dental Patient Engagement 2024 Benchmark Report," highlighting the surprising trends in communication preferences among different age demographics, especially seniors.

The conversation emphasizes the importance of timely, relevant, and actionable communication to improve patient engagement and appointment confirmation rates, as well as strategies for reengaging patients who have not been in for a while.

DeVries told me that there were some findings in the report that surprised him, as well as some beliefs in dental practices that often don't turn out to be true.

"The other thing that we found is that we often leverage what we call microagreements. Often dentists will say, or front desk will say, my patients think I'm texting them too much," DeVries said. "And when they do an audit of the way they're communicating, they're only texting two or three times or sending two or three emails, which I think everyone can agree isn't that much, especially for any kind of surgery."
