Scott Mateer of Mateer Orthodontics transformed his orthodontic practice on Halloween into the Hogwarts Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the fictional boarding school in J.K. Rowling’s book “Harry Potter.”
Mateer dressed as Voldemort, the villain in the book and movie series. Mateer’s costume consisted of a dark robe, a plastic snake named Nagini that was draped around Mateer’s neck, a custom-made mask featuring snakelike slit nostrils, and a magic wand. Several staff members also represented characters from the book, including Hermione Granger, Harry Potter’s friend; Dumbledoor, Hogwarts’ beloved headmaster; and irascible professor Severus Snape.
It wasn’t only Mateer and his staff who dressed up -- the entire practice was decorated to recreate special places and scenes from the book. For instance, candles and flying envelopes were suspended in midair as was a flying car driven by Harry and Ron Weasley.
