Two dentists in Connecticut have agreed to pay more than $700,000 to resolve federal and state false claims allegations, according to a press release published November 19 from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.
Dr. Ivan Makar, of the now dissolved Dent Plus Family Dentist in Stamford, CT, and Dr. Oleg Losin, of the now dissolved L&M Family Dentistry in New Haven, CT, agreed to pay $714,446 to resolve allegations that they submitted kickback-tainted claims to the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program (CTMAP).
The claims were allegedly related to dental services rendered to Medicaid patients referred to the businesses by a third-party patient recruiting company. The claims, which occurred between January 2019 and September 2020, violated state and U.S. False Claims Acts, the press release states.
The Connecticut Dental Health Partnership provider manual does not permit per-patient compensation for patients referred to providers.
By entering into this deal, the providers and their practices did not admit liability, according to the press release.
