An orthodontic practice in Oklahoma has agreed to pay nearly $600,000 to settle claims that it knowingly and improperly billed the state's Medicaid program for dental services, according to a press release dated November 18 from the Oklahoma Attorney General.

Red Dirt Orthodontics, which has offices in Oklahoma City and Yukon, OK, has agreed to pay $583,090 to settle allegations.

The practice reportedly submitted false claims for payment between March 2022 and March 2024 that falsely identified an Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA)-credentialed orthodontist as the provider for services that were rendered by an uncredentialed orthodontist. A clinician not credentialed with OHCA is not authorized to submit claims to the state Medicaid program, according to the press release.
