Dentist fatally shot, woman arrested

A woman was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a dental surgeon who worked as a dental director at a nonprofit clinic in Wisconsin at a condominium on April 19, according to multiple news stories published April 21.

Dr. Akintunde Bowden, 41, a dental director at Milwaukee Health Services, was pronounced dead at a home in Brown Deer, WI, at about 11 p.m. on April 19. A 27-year-old woman who has not yet been identified was arrested in connection with the shooting at the scene, according to the stories.

Authorities have not identified a motive for the shooting or any additional details.

Representatives from Milwaukee Health Services released a statement on April 21 stating that Bowden was focused on integrating oral health into chronic disease management, and he had been fiercely committed to serving underserved communities and eliminating health disparities since he began working there in 2014.

Bowden, a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, was remembered by colleagues as having a “compassionate spirit” and “visionary leadership.” He was named the nonprofit’s dental director in 2024, according to the stories.

In 2022, he was the recipient of a Black Excellence Award, which recognizes individuals for their character, contributions, and commitment to their communities.
