Four dentists and the dental practice in Alaska where they are employed are accused of theft and committing Medicaid fraud over a five-year period and have been indicted, according to multiple news articles.
An Anchorage grand jury indicted on December 16 Drs. Shane Rhoton, Andrew Anderson, Tanner Zylstra, Ernest Sorenson, and the limited liability company that operates as Four Corners Dental Group Fairbanks in Fairbanks, AK. They each were charged with one count of scheming to defraud $10,000-plus, one count of theft of $25,000 or more, three counts of medical assistance fraud for a value of $25,000 or more, and two counts of medical assistance fraud of $500 or more.
Between 2017 and 2022, the dentists allegedly knowingly submitted or were accomplices in submitting Medicaid claims for various procedures, including crowns, composites, tooth extractions, and sealants. They reportedly committed the fraud with "reckless disregard," according to news articles.
The theft allegedly occurred in 2018, according to the articles. The dentists are scheduled to be arraigned on these offenses in January.
