Dentists and general practitioners (GPs) in England continue to cancel appointments due to COVID-19 restrictions left in place despite easing of the government's self-isolation guidance in early August, according to an August 30 report on inews.co.uk, the website of the British newspaper i.

National Health Service (NHS) England and NHS Improvement have sent a letter to dentists and GPs informing them that, until further notice, the existing COVID-19 Infection Protection and Control guidance still applies, according to the article. As a result, patient appointments continue to be canceled if someone has tested positive for COVID-19 in their household.

British Dental Association Chairman Eddie Crouch said that the latest rules governing the delivery of dental care are complex and confusing for both dentists and patients.

"We share patients' frustration that restrictions on dental practices have left millions struggling to secure care," he stated in the article. "Dentists and patients need to know whether there is a need to continue with policies that have halved access to dental services."
