At the recent Dentsply Sirona World meeting in Las Vegas, Dr. Sara Mahmood -- founder and owner of brush365, with locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex -- spoke with DrBicuspid.com about the importance of scanning in her dental practice and how she ensures her team members get the right scans every day.

"Hey, I'm Dr. Sara. I'm from Dallas, Texas, and I want to share a clinical tip on how to get your teams to scan more.
"Now, what I've learned over the years is that I often lecture on scanning, and I get asked, 'How do you get your teams to scan?' And I've broken it down into three different categories.
If your team is not scanning. It's either due to a lack of time management, a lack of confidence, or a lack of accountability.
"So my advice for you is to see which of those three is keeping your team from allowing you to have the opportunity to educate your patients chairside and to be able to convert more treatment to allow for better success for your office and for your patients.
"Now, when it comes to time management, I found that if you give 60 minutes for an appointment, it'll take 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and so on. So it's really about working with your teams on how to structure their time.
"When it comes to confidence, it's really important to train your teams on the things you want them to do; make it a collaborative effort.
"And then when it comes to accountability, if you miss a scan, ask a team member why they didn't get it done, and make sure you're assigning the right person to that role every morning so that everyone has clarity on what they're doing. That's my tip."
