Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has named a new chair of the state's Board of Dental Examiners, as well as appointed or reappointed six examiners.
Steve Austin, DDS, will serve as the new chair of the dental board, which is responsible for overseeing licensing and regulation of dental providers in the state. Dr. Austin is a private practice dentist in Amarillo, TX, and a former adjunct faculty member at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry.
Abbott also appointed or reappointed the following examiners:
- Diane Garza, PhD, nonprofit fundraising and educational consultant
- Bryan Henderson II, DDS, dental anesthesiologist and clinical assistant professor at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry
- Jorge Quirch, DDS, general dentist at DDS Associates in Houston and clinical associate professor at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston
- Rich Villa, JD, partner at Streusand, Landon & Ozburn and member of the State Bar of Texas
- Renee Cornett, RDH, licensed dental hygienist and chair of the Austin Community College District Department of Dental Hygiene
- David Tillman, DDS, general dentist in private practice in Fort Worth, TX
All examiner terms are set to expire on February 1, 2021, except for Garza's, whose term expires on February 1, 2017.
