Univ. of Maryland dental school picks new dean

Mark A. Reynolds, DDS, PhD, has been chosen as dean of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

Dr. Reynolds, a 1986 graduate of the School of Dentistry, has served as interim dean since last year and has been with the school in various capacities for 18 years, according to the university.

He has served as chairman of the department of periodontics since 2005 and director of the Advanced Dental Education Program in Periodontics from 2001 to 2013. Dr. Reynolds joined the dental school in 1996 as an assistant professor in the departments of oral and maxillofacial pathology and periodontics.

He was named interim dean in 2013 when former dean Christian Stohler, DMD, left to become dean of the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Reynolds has published more than 110 peer-reviewed articles and has more than 3,700 citations, according to the university. He sits on the editorial boards of the journal Clinical Advances in Periodontics, the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, the Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice, and the Journal of Periodontal Research, and he serves on the peer-review panel of the Journal of Periodontology. He is also currently director of the American Board of Periodontology.
