Feds seize dentist's money in Texas Medicaid fraud case

Federal investigators raided an Amarillo, TX, orthodontist's office bank account after alleging that he defrauded Medicaid, according to a story in the Amarillo Globe-News.

FBI agents filed a seizure warrant seeking $726,289.12 from Goodwin Orthodontics but were only able to seize $108,083, the story noted.

The Texas Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit received information in 2009 that Michael Goodwin, DDS, was billing Medicaid in Texas for work his assistants allegedly were performing while he was out of town, according to the Amarillo Globe-News.

From April 2008 through April 2011, authorities allege Dr. Goodwin filed more than 20,000 fraudulent claims with Medicaid worth more than $1.6 million. They have not filed any charges against Dr. Goodwin but are seeking to recoup some of the Medicaid money they say he received in the past year.
