Demandforce to merge with Intuit for $424M

Demandforce, a provider of patient communication software and services for dental and other industries, is being acquired by Intuit, a provider of business and financial management products for small and medium-sized businesses and consumers.

The cash transaction, valued at $423.5 million, is expected to close in May 2012, subject to customary closing conditions. Once the deal is finalized, Demandforce will become a new division in Intuit's Small Business Group and will continue to be led by Rick Berry, Demandforce president and founder.

Demandforce's software as a service application is used by thousands of small businesses to automate marketing and customer communications, build and maintain an online reputation, and raise their profile with local consumers, the companies noted in a press release.

Over the past two years the company has partnered with a number of dental companies, including Henry Schein and Planet DDS, as well as dental associations in California, Michigan, Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia.

Intuit's flagship products include QuickBooks, TurboTax, and Quicken.
