An employee was recently arrested for allegedly stealing more than $50,000 in patient payments while working at an orthodontics practice in Indiana, according to multiple news reports dated August 26.

Jennifer Fullenkamp, 61, was arrested on August 23 and charged with theft and corrupt business influences for reportedly stealing several payments made by patients to Scheele Orthodontics in Batesville, IN. The Batesville resident remains in the county jail, where she was sent following her arrest, according to news reports.

In 2023, the practice notified police of payments that turned up unaccounted for or missing. An investigation revealed that Fullenkamp, who worked at the practice for years, convinced patients to pay for their dental treatment with cash in exchange for a discount, according to reports. Fullenkamp purportedly stole the cash payments and altered the practice's computer records to cover up the theft, according to reports.

Fullenkamp is expected to face a jury trial in 2025.
