Wash. dentist charged with unprofessional conduct after patient's death

A Washington dentist has been charged with unprofessional conduct after a patient died during an extraction procedure.

Keith Antonio Salvatori, DMD, who operated Affordable Dentures and Crowns in Burlington, WA, did not take into account the patient's "severe medical conditions" before the procedure, according to a statement by the Washington State Department of Health. The patient stopped breathing during the June 2014 extraction and couldn't be revived.

Dr. Salvatori also did not report the death to authorities and didn't allow an investigator to examine patient monitoring and emergency equipment, the health department said.

Dr. Salvatori said he knew about the patient's heart problems and referred her to an oral surgeon after consulting with her primary care physician, according to his response to the charges.
