A dentist and former owner of a dental practice in Duluth, MN, has admitted to funding a lavish lifestyle that included adult entertainment, vacations, and more with about five years of unpaid employment taxes.

Gary Hedin, DDS, the former owner of Downtown Dental Care, pleaded guilty on October 22 in the U.S. District Court in Minneapolis to one count of failure to account for and pay employment taxes to the IRS, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota.

Dr. Hedin admitted that he owed almost $160,000 in unpaid taxes to the IRS. He failed to file required tax returns and pay employment taxes withheld from the wages of his employees for tax years 2012 through 2017. Instead, the cash was used to cover his luxurious lifestyle, which included memberships to private social clubs, vacations, adult entertainment, and jewelry purchases, according to court documents.

His sentencing is scheduled for February.
