Brooklyn dentist convicted of practicing without license

A man in New York City was sentenced to five months in prison plus five years of probation for practicing dentistry after losing his license.

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced that Alexander Hollander, who lost his license to practice dentistry in June 2000 after being convicted of Medicaid fraud, had continued to practice dentistry in Brooklyn after his conviction.

While looking into Medicaid funds Hollander had been ordered to repay, the attorney general's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit found that Hollander was actively practicing dentistry in Brooklyn. An undercover operation dubbed "Operation Toothache" was initiated and Hollander was recorded on video treating a patient in the office.

Hollander was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
