Week in Review: ADA's new licensing exam; new products at IDS; and teledentistry

Dear DrBicuspid Member,

Dentistry is one of the last professions to use live patients in licensing examinations. In an effort to end this practice, the ADA is creating its own exam to test the clinical competency of dentists that does not use live patients. The association plans to have the exam developed, tested, and available for states to license by 2020. Learn more here.

Dental journalist Kevin Henry attended the 2017 International Dental Show (IDS) in Cologne, Germany, and saw a plethora of amazing new technologies. He offers a roundup of these introductions in a two-part exclusive series. Read part one here and part two here.

While teledentistry has been suggested as a solution to combat the dental neglect increasingly prevalent among elderly residents of long-term care facilities, questions remain about the technology and its usefulness. A new study compared teledentistry to face-to-face examination for diagnosing dental pathology. Learn more here.
