The California Dental Association (CDA) supports the state legislature’s decision to delay Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposal to cut Proposition 56 funding for Medi-Cal Dental and dental coverage for undocumented adults until July 1, 2027.
Rejecting the immediate cuts prevents jeopardizing care for millions of patients, according to the CDA’s statement.
However, the CDA warns that delaying the cuts still creates uncertainty for patients and providers. Proposition 56 currently provides one-third of Medi-Cal Dental funding and has led to major improvements in access and provider participation. CDA urges lawmakers to fully remove the proposed cuts in future budgets.
