Toronto-based materials science company Mesosil has received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its antimicrobial additive technology.
The approval allows its global manufacturing partners to introduce new anti-infective dental materials in the U.S.
Mesosil’s nanostructured silica additive can be integrated into existing dental composites and cements, enabling materials to resist infection and degradation without changing clinical workflows.
Furthermore, the technology is designed to prevent secondary caries from bacterial growth at the tooth-filling interface, according to the company.
