A dentist in North Carolina who was in danger of having her license yanked for the second time in three years voluntarily surrendered her license permanently for having dirty conditions at her practice.
Dr. Jiaming Geng of Parrot Dental in Morehead City, NC, has agreed that she cannot reapply for a dental license in North Carolina in the future. However, Geng did not admit civil liability nor attach herself to any other proceedings that don't involve the dental board, according to a consent order dated May 31 from the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners.
In April 2024, dental board investigators showed up for an unannounced inspection and allegedly found reused instruments and cockroaches and discovered gloves that were being used improperly. Geng agreed to have her license suspended and not to treat patients until the allegations were resolved.
After agreeing to a suspension, she continued treating patients. When the investigator arrived to check out this claim, a printout of dental records for certain patients was requested and a follow-up sterilization inspection was planned.
The dental board investigator briefly walked outside the office to make a phone call when Geng reportedly locked him out of the dental practice. Furthermore, the investigator alleged he could not regain entry to obtain the records or conduct the inspection, according to the consent order.
In 2021, Geng was temporarily inspected due to similar violations, including cross-contamination and sterilization issues. Eventually, after following through on training and other requirements, her license was reinstated, according to the order.
