A prosthodontist in Washington was suspended for alleged unprofessional conduct and practicing outside the scope of his licenses related to the treatment of five patients, according to a press release dated May 31 from the Washington State Department of Health.
Dr. Ellis Jardine of Excel Dental in Battle Ground, WA, had his dental and moderate sedation with parenteral agent licenses suspended pending further disciplinary actions. He cannot practice in the state until the charges are resolved, according to an order dated May 24 from the state health department's Dental Quality Assurance Commission.
Between 2017 and 2023, Jardine reportedly practiced outside the scope of his credentials by administering ketamine and using a combination of drugs likely to result in a level of deeper sedation than moderate sedation. He allegedly administered local anesthetic to two patients that created a risk of toxicity.
Furthermore, Jardine purportedly put three patients with complex medical conditions at risk of harm and "likely caused them direct harm" when he treated them without having the appropriate experience and training.
Additionally, Jardine allegedly failed to adequately and accurately assess patient risk factors through evaluation or discussion of alternative treatment options and didn't monitor and/or document all required vital signs during patients' procedures, according to the state.
"(The allegations) justify the determination of immediate danger in this case and a decision to immediately suspend the credentials until a hearing on the matter is held," the order states.
