Chairman of Penn dental school periodontics dies

Ricardo Teles, DDS, the chairman of the department of periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, died on December 11. His death has been ruled a suicide, according to published reports.

Dr. Teles had been appointed chairman of the department in August 2017. Previously, he had been vice chairman of the department of periodontology at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill, NC. Before that appointment, Dr. Teles served as a clinical instructor in periodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston.

He is survived by his wife, an associate professor in the department of microbiology at the same institution.
