Minn. education loan repayment program now open

Applications are now being accepted for the 2016 Dedicated to Minnesota Dentists (DMD) dental education loan repayment for service program.

The DMD program seeks to improve access to care by providing program recipients with up to $200,000 for educational loans in return for their service as a general dentist in a dental provider shortage area. The DMD recipients are also encouraged to provide care for those who may otherwise go without dental care, including taking on some public program patients.

The DMD program began in 2015 and is possible thanks to a partnership between the Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation and the Minnesota Dental Foundation. The Delta Dental Foundation provides the funding and administration of the DMD program, and the Minnesota Dental Foundation helps promote and select candidates.

"Oral health is a critical aspect to overall health and well-being," stated Rodney Young, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Minnesota and chair of the Delta Dental Foundation board. "We are proud to partner with the Minnesota Dental Foundation to help support access to care through the placement of dentists in underserved communities."
