John Sauk, DDS, dean of the University of Louisville (UofL) School of Dentistry, will step down from his position at the end of 2015.
Dr. Sauk will guide the school through its accreditation process this September and then rejoin the faculty as a professor in the department of surgical and hospital dentistry, section of oral pathology, according to the university.
During his tenure, the school established the Miller Clinic in Elizabethtown, KY, opened a pediatric dentistry office at the Kosair Charities facilities in Louisville, and began operating the Children and Youth Dental Clinic on the UofL Health Sciences Center campus.
Under Dr. Sauk's leadership, the School of Dentistry created a combined Doctor of Dental Medicine and doctorate (DMD/PhD) program. The school is also involved in a federal grant to engage dental students in interdisciplinary education with the nursing school to cultivate collaboration and patient-centered care among the professions.
