GHSU opens dental clinic in Peru

The College of Dental Medicine at Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) has joined the local health care community in Peru to improve dental health, according to a story on the GHSU website.

The country averages one dental professional per 9,000 people and has a 95% prevalence of caries and periodontal disease.

GHSU joined Peruvian officials on March 31 to mark the opening of a dental clinic in Cusco. The clinic is stocked with donated supplies and equipment and hosts dentists and dental students from the U.S. and abroad who will serve as consultants to local practitioners.
