Empower the hygiene team

Successful dental practices empower the hygiene department to present dentistry to patients. The ability to educate patients must be considered an essential part of the job description for today's dental hygienist.

Do

Educate patients. During the hygiene appointment, the hygienist should spend time educating patients on appropriate home care, proper nutrition, and different services offered by the practice. Use appropriate scripting to convey treatment benefits and answer any patient questions.

Don't

Don't forget to prepare. During the morning meeting, discuss any hygiene patients who are candidates for other services, along with ideas for case presentation. This approach will prepare not only the hygienist and dentist but the entire dental team to meet the needs of patients scheduled for that day.
