The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) will receive a $2.5 million funding grant that will be used for campus upgrades, including ones for its College of Dentistry.
As part of the project, the grant from the Illinois Jobs Now capital construction program will enable the dental college to get an emergency generator and new fire alarm and sprinkler systems, according to the university. The College of Medicine will get new windows, and asbestos-containing materials will be removed from the school's buildings.
The project is expected to generate 140 construction jobs; construction is expected to begin next year.
