Practice success depends on an effective schedule. The first step in evaluating the daily schedule is to determine how time is used by each team member. Are there opportunities to increase efficiency and productivity for the front office team, the assistants, and the dentist? The answer is usually yes. Most practices can improve efficiency and reduce stress by redesigning the scheduling system.

Establish a daily production goal. This way you can schedule evenly throughout the year and achieve the production levels you need to meet your annual goal. When a practice schedules for production, there is an excellent organization and flow to the schedule, keeping the practice productive and less stressful.

Don't forget to leave room for new patients. New patients are the key to continually increasing practice production. By reserving specific blocks in the schedule, practices can accommodate new patients quickly and efficiently. When new patients contact the practice, they should be scheduled within seven to 10 days, while motivation and interest are high.
