Money problems lead to closure of Harvard dental clinic

Citing financial strain, the Harvard School of Dental Medicine permanently closed its dental clinic in Cambridge, MA, which had been shuttered since an electrical fire six months ago, according to a story recently published in the Harvard Crimson.

Since the fire in April, dental services provided at the Harvard Dental Center’s Cambridge practice have been completed at its clinic in Longwood. Prior to the fire and water damage, the Cambridge center housed the faculty group practice, while the Longwood site operated as a clinic where students treat patients under supervision.

Following the fire, all faculty and staff relocated to Longwood, which now combines both practices. The closure comes as the university faces financial strain from an endowment tax hike and funding cuts, leading to budget deficits and staff reductions.
