The U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed David Shulkin, MD, as the new secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
The Senate voted 100-0 on February 13 to confirm Dr. Shulkin, who served as VA undersecretary of health in the administration of former President Barack Obama. Dr. Shulkin, an internist, will be responsible for running the organization that has been plagued by a number of problems and is currently under a hiring freeze for many positions.
