Nobel Peace Prize winner to speak at ADA 2016

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai will speak at the ADA 2016 annual meeting.

Yousafzai has long been a vocal, global activist for girls' education. She nearly died when she was 15 years old, after being shot by the Taliban on her bus ride home from school.

In addition to receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 with Indian children's rights campaigner Kailash Satyarthi, Yousafzai is also an award-winning and best-selling author. Her other honors include the following:

  • Named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2013 by Time magazine
  • The Ambassador of Conscience award from Amnesty International
  • Woman of the Year from Glamour magazine

"Malala Yousafzai is one of the most iconic women of our time," stated Carol Gomez Summerhays, DDS, president of the ADA. "Her life experiences and achievements within the first two decades of her life are profoundly inspiring. To hear her tell her story is a once in a lifetime opportunity for those who attend ADA 2016."

Malala continues to fight for the rights of every child to receive an education. She will be part of the Distinguished Speaker Series during the 2016 ADA meeting, which will be held from October 21-24 in Denver.
