ADA member Kathryn Kell, DDS, has been elected president-elect of the FDI World Dental Federation.
Dr. Kell, a general practitioner from Davenport, IA, was chosen on September 24 at the FDI Annual World Dental Congress in Bangkok, according to the organization. This is the first time in 30 years an ADA member will hold this position.
"I'd like to thank the American Dental Association for nominating me and for all they've done to support my candidacy," Dr. Kell said in her acceptance speech.
As FDI president-elect, Dr. Kell will focus on shaping leadership capacity and increasing the value of membership by enhancing FDI programming, according to the federation. She is past president of the Iowa Dental Association and served as an ADA trustee from 2004 to 2008.
The FDI World Dental Federation represents more than 1 million dentists from more than 130 countries.
