Supreme Court hears NC teeth-whitening case; assessing associates; ADA session on pain management

The U.S. Supreme Court justices appeared divided during oral arguments on Tuesday in the closely watched North Carolina teeth-whitening case, with some concerned that the state dental board may be unfairly restricting competition. Read Features Editor Donna Domino's important article here.

Pain management, identification of patients at high risk for substance abuse, and utilizing interventions for drug abusers were the focus of a session at the ADA 2014 annual meeting. Citing soaring rates of the abuse of prescription drugs such as oxycontin and codeine, Patrick Sammon, PhD, a professor from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, said many children are getting their drugs from home medicine cabinets.
