A California dentist and attorney who gained fame for filing "birther" lawsuits alleging that U.S. President Barack Obama is ineligible to be president is running to be California's attorney general.
Orly Taitz, DDS, has declared her intent to challenge Attorney General Kamala Harris, according to an Orange County Register story.
Dr. Taita, who practices in Laguna Niguel, CA, has made -- and lost -- legal challenges to Obama's presidency in several states. She claims that Obama wasn't born in the U.S. -- despite his Hawaiian birth certificate -- and is ineligible to be president.
Her campaign website states that if elected state attorney general, she would prosecute state officials who ignored evidence that Obama fabricated his birth certificate.
Beside the birther suits, she also alleges the president is using a fraudulent Social Security number.
Dr. Taitz recently filed papers declaring her intent to challenge Harris, the third time she's run for statewide office. In the 2010 Republican primary, Dr. Taitz ran for secretary of state. In the 2012 GOP primary, she ran for the opportunity to challenge Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-San Francisco) and won 3% of the vote.
Dr. Taitz, who was born in Moldova in the then-Soviet Union, faces a top-two open primary if she qualifies to run. The top-two vote getters advance to the November election.
