NC dentists sue dental chain owners; how common is dentin hypersensitivity?

Dear DrBicuspid Member,

North Carolina is fighting back against the growing prevalence of corporate dental chains.

The North Carolina dental board and a group of 14 dentists have each filed a lawsuit against DentalWorks, alleging that the chain pressured dentists and hygienists to give patients unnecessary treatments and that DentalWorks is illegally practicing in North Carolina because only dentists licensed in the state can legally own dental practices there.

Read more in this latest Practice Management Community exclusive, which includes details from the lawsuits and a statement from the 14 dentists on what motivated them to sue.

Meanwhile, in Imaging & CAD/CAM Community news, two cone-beam CT products introduced at the recent Chicago Midwinter Meeting are addressing two critical issues in cone-beam CT imaging: radiation reduction and image optimization.

Finally, dentin hypersensitivity is a common problem that dentists encounter, but just how common is it in general practices? Some studies have suggested that half of all patients suffer from hypersensitivity, while others have concluded that the rate is barely above 1%. A new study in the Journal of the American Dental Association attempts to clear the air once and for all regarding the prevalence of dentin hypersensitivity and help dentists better treat the condition.
