CDA event provides $1.2M in free dental care

The California Dental Association (CDA) Foundation's free dental clinic, CDA Cares, provided an estimated $1.2 million in charitable dental services during a two-day event in Modesto over the weekend.

More than 1,000 volunteers donated their time and services, including 300 health professionals -- dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, nurses, and lab technicians -- as well as hundreds of community volunteers who assisted with registration, translation, data entry, and escorting patients, according to a press release.

During the event, dentists and dental professionals provided 1,650 people with 7,200 procedures, including cleanings, fillings, extractions, and more than 80 complete or partial dentures. Patients also received oral health education materials, assistance in finding a dental home for future care, and an oral health kit with a toothbrush and toothpaste.

Another CDA Cares event will be held August 24-25 in Sacramento at Cal Expo.
