The Indiana State Board of Dentistry voted unanimously to fine Southport Mayor Rob Thoman, DDS, $2,000 for failing to disclose on his dental license application that he once faced embezzlement charges, according to a story by WRTV6.
While Dr. Thoman will retain his license, he will be on probation for a year and will have to perform 40 hours of community service.
Dr. Thoman did not reveal on his 1987 application that in 1981, when he was student body president at Colorado State University he pleaded "no contest" to felony embezzlement charges relating to school funds, WRTV6 reported.
He also failed to disclose that he left the U.S. Army under "other than honorable conditions" after serving as an operating room specialist from 1977 to 1980.
Dr. Thoman's term as mayor has been "controversial," and he does not plan to run for reelection, according to WRTV6.
