Bay County, FL, has received a $1 million grant from the state Department of Health that will go toward a new dental care facility and creating sustainable dental care for the county's poorer residents, according to a story in the News Herald.
Although a few agencies are attempting to provide dental services in the county, they are limited by the lack of available Medicaid dentists, County Health Department Administrator Douglas Kent told the Herald. The county would need 12 dentists to solve the access problem for Medicaid clients, he said.
"My goal is to utilize Medicaid as the source of pay, and that way, slots will open so others can have a sliding fee," Kent said in the story. "It's going to be a financially sustainable way to get dental into the community."
Kent will go before the Bay County Commission on July 6 seeking approval for his plan.
