The city of Tucson, AZ, has selected Cigna as its dental coverage carrier, and beginning July 1 nearly 6,000 city employees and retirees will be able to choose a dental PPO or HMO plan.
The city already offers Cigna's healthcare plans and services to its employees.
Offering medical and dental plans through Cigna allows city employees to participate in integrated programs, including Cigna's WellAware for Better Health disease management program and Oral Health Integration Program, according to the company.
City employees can also use many online dental health resources and interactive tools, such as Cigna's periodontal and cavity risk assessment tools and dental treatment cost estimator.
"By combining dental with medical under Cigna, we reduce annual health coverage costs by more than $600,000," said Cindy Bezaury, director of human resources for the city.
