The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is reaching out to the dental community in hopes of tracking down a fugitive gangster who has been on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list since 1999.

Last month the bureau placed an ad in the ADA News asking dentists to be on the lookout for James "Whitey" Bulger, 80, and his long-time companion, Catherine Greig, 59.

"Have you treated these fugitives?" reads the ad, which includes pictures of Greig and Bulger. The ADA News also ran a story on the pair and the FBI's attempts to find them.

Greig is a licensed dental hygienist in Massachusetts, and also reportedly has several dental implants and has her teeth cleaned every month, according to a story in the Boston Globe.

By placing photos and information about Bulger and Greig in the ADA News, the FBI is hoping someone who may have cleaned Greig's teeth will recognize her, the Globe said.

Bulger fled before a January 1995 federal racketeering indictment in Boston and is wanted in relation to 19 murders in the 1970s and 1980s, the Globe noted. The last confirmed sighting of Bulger was in London in 2002.

A reward of $2 million is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Bulger. Those with any information about the couple should call 617-742-5533 or e-mail [email protected].
