The Forsyth Institute has received a $2.9 million award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to renovate laboratory, clinical research, and support space at its new facility in Cambridge, MA. The award will provide funds to create a new interdisciplinary research center of excellence called the Center for Discovery at the Host-Biofilm Interface, according to the institute.
The new center will build upon Forsyth's existing research programs in microbiology, molecular genetics, microbial informatics, and immunology. In conjunction with this project, Forsyth said it is beginning an aggressive multiyear recruitment campaign and will hire eight new principal investigators.
"This construction grant from NIH continues the tremendous support that Forsyth has received through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009," said Philip Stashenko, D.M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO of the Forsyth Institute, in a press release. "In a time when many organizations are cutting back, we are able to step up our efforts to recruit leading scientists."
The institute will be relocating to its new headquarters later this year.
