Dentist jailed for evading taxes

A West Virginia dentist has been sentenced to 12 months and a day in prison for evading payment of more than $240,000 in U.S. income taxes, according to a news story in the Williamson Daily News.

Alan Vance, D.D.S., pleaded guilty in March to failing to report the cash from his dental practice in Charleston and Williamson, as well as his Charleston dry cleaning business, according to the story.

Dr. Vance was the only dentist in Williamson.

Dr. Vance's sentence is short of the 18 to 24 months recommended by federal sentencing guidelines. He has also been fined $40,000.
