A Brooklyn dentist who lives in New Jersey will spend 17 months in prison for aiding the terrorist group Hezbollah, according to a story in the New Jersey Star-Ledger.
Saleh Elahwal, D.D.S., admitted in December that he and another man accepted more than $100,000 from Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV station to air its satellite broadcasts through their company, HDTV Limited, from September 2005 through August 2006, the paper reported.
The U.S. government regards Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
Dr. Elahwal was sentenced June 23. The second man charged in the case, Javed Iqbal, also pleaded guilty in December and was sentenced to 69 months in prison.
