Hundreds of thousands of retired General Motors (GM) autoworkers will lose their dental benefits as part of the company's bankruptcy restructuring plan, according to a story in the Michigan Messenger.
Delta Dental, which holds the contract to provide those benefits, will also be affected by the cuts, the spaper reported. As a result, the company plans to offer "special options to the retirees who are affected so they can continue their coverage," Ari Adler, a spokesperson for Delta Dental, told the Messenger.
"Delta Dental has affordable dental plan options available to GM and Chrysler retirees. These plans have already been available to salaried retirees of GM, Ford, and Chrysler, and Delta Dental is now making them available to the UAW-represented retirees from GM and Chrysler who are losing their coverage," according to the Delta Dental of Michigan Web site.
