Massachusetts may eliminate adult dental benefits under state Medicaid plans as part of an updated budget proposal filed this week by Gov. Deval Patrick, according to a Boston Globe story.
This cut could save the state $164 million, but would also leave 600,000 Massachusetts residents without dental care. When the governor submitted the original budget in January, he was expecting to receive $19.5 billion next year, but this has been lowered to $18 billion, the paper reported.
"I remain committed to protecting key programs like education and healthcare, and will continue to responsibly manage the state's finances so that Massachusetts emerges from this downturn stronger than before," said Gov. Patrick, according to the Boston Globe.
