Calif. dentists charged with fondling patients

Police in two separate incidents have charged California dentists with inappropriately touching their patients, according to news reports.

In the first incident, the Orange County Sheriff's Department arrested Ghassan Mehtar, D.D.S., on October 22 after a 26-year-old patient accused him of touching her in an inappropriate place and moving her clothing to see her breasts, the Orange County Register reported.

Dr. Mehtar, who has been released on bail, could not be reached for comment.

In the second incident, San Jose police arrested Benva Lazar, D.M.D., on October 30 after a 23-year-old patient accused him of fondling her breasts under the pretext of performing a medical breast examination, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

No one answered at Dr. Lazar's office Monday.

In both incidents, the police are looking for other women whom the dentists touched in similar ways, according to the newspapers.
