Dental equipment manufacturer Gnatus has released the new Gnatus Dental Lamp LED Plus, which uses light-emitting diodes to overcome the inconveniences associated with conventional halogen models, according to a press release.
These issues include short bulb life, high power usage, and spillover light. The illumination from the LEDs also has less effect on curing light resins, giving dentists more time to do restorative work before the resins harden, according to Philips Lumileds, which supplies the LEDs used in the Gnatus lamp.
According to the companies, other advantages over halogen lamps include:
- 40% brighter
- 12-25 year life compared to 3-6 months
- 60% reduction in power consumption
- True white light, improving dental diagnosis and resin matching for crowns, veneers, and other restorations
- Reduced heat output, eliminating dentist and patient discomfort
- No peripheral light shining in patients' eyes
- Smaller, sleeker design enabled by eliminating the need for large reflectors required for halogen products
"Our Dental Light LED Plus has features that simply are not possible with halogen lighting, and that has made it one of the most successful products we have ever launched," said Gnatus CEO Gilberto Nomelini.
